Who inspired you to be a priest?

Fr. Troy Nevins, who has been my pastor from the time I was in third grade (that’s almost 13 years!).  His example of prayer and penitence has had a great influence on me throughout the years, as well as his boldness in preaching Christ’s truth, no matter the cost.  Additionally, Fr. Michael Becker, the rector of our seminary, has had a big influence on me since I met him in my sophomore year in high school.

Why do you want to be a priest?

The Lord has a passionate love for each and every one of His people, which is why He both died and rose for us.  The command He gave to His apostles at His ascension following these events has always stuck with me: “Go and baptize them.”  I have always had a desire to participate in this mission, and the priest not only gets to do this, but also help Christians on their way to fulfilling what He destines for them through it!

What do you love the most about seminary?

I was first attracted to the life of the seminary by the holiness of the men in the house: the peace and grace which radiated from them.  Now that I’m over half-way through the process of college seminary, this is renewed all the time. Whenever I feel discouraged or down, I know that my brothers will be able to offer an encounter which will help lift my heart to the Lord.

What are you most grateful for?

The call the Lord re-issues to each of us to be with Him in every moment of every day; the ability to say, like St. Peter, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If You wish, I will…” (Matthew 17:4).
